1/72 S-2 Pitts Special Airock ’04 & 06

This is an injection-plastic airliner model kit.

Limited reissue by Platz of two LS/Arii 1/72 scale Pitts S-2 kits with decals to mark them as two aircraft from the Japanese aerobatic team AIRock: JA22AR, the aircraft flown by the founder and former team leader, the late “Rock” Iwasaki during the 2004 season and JA11AR, the aircraft currently being flown in the 2006 season by Rock’s student and former wingman “Sunny” Yokoyama. Purists may note that Team Airock flew twin seat S-2Bs, while the kits themselves are of single-seat S-2As, and some comparatively minor conversion work would be needed to be strictly accurate. However, the LS/Arii kit builds up very nicely as-is, and the colorful decals will make for an attractive model for your shelf, as well as a fitting tribute to Rock’s memory. Also note that Rock’s aircraft, JA22AR, can be finished as it appeared at either the Shizuhama Airshow or at the Shimizu Harbor Festival. The instructions show the decal placement for the Shimizu Harbor Festival, if you wish to depict the aircraft as seen at Shizuhama replace decal #37 with #49 and do not apply #45 and #48.
