Based on a novel by Mori Hiroshi, the 2008 film “The Sky Crawlers,” directed by Oshii Mamoru, features the Sanka Mark B piloted by the protagonist! With the supervision of the film’s mechanical designer, Takeuchi Atsushi, the unique appearance of the aircraft, equipped with a pusher-type engine arrangement (the opposite arrangement to that of a typical reciprocating engine aircraft) and counter-rotating propellers, has been realistically reproduced.
