Known as the Model 75 when it was first built in the mid-1930s, the Stearman was the primany trainer used by the United States military for pilots during World War II. After the war, Stearmans have been used for all sorts of jobs from crop dusting to aerobatics. In all, over 8,500 Stearmans were built to train pilots and get them ready for combat. The “PT-17”, as it was also known, was a rugged and dependable aircraft was perfect for the job.
