The Polikarpov I-16 is a Soviet single-engine piston fighter designed by the Polikarpov Design Bureau in the 1930’s. The first flight on the prototype was made by Valery Chkalov on December 30, 1933.This low-wing fighter was the world’s first serial high-speed one with retractable landing gear.
