Designed early in the jet age, the Stratojet was the world’s first jet-powered bomber. Its swept-wing six-engine design revolutionized both military and civilian aviation. Many of the design concepts pioneered in its design have been continued in modern jet airliners to the present day. However, simple aviation advancement was not the Stratojet’s purpose. It was intended to deliver nuclear weapons against targets in Russia. Fortunately for the entire world, the Stratojet never fulfilled its destructive role.
