The J29 Tunnan is a swept-wing jet developed and manufactured by Saab in Sweden. Its nickname, “Tunnan,” means “barrel” in Swedish, given because of the characteristic bulging shape of its body. The Tunnan was equipped with an engine licensed by Volvo Aero from De Havilland in the United Kingdom. The final production F type was equipped with an afterburner, which was the first case in history of a jet engine developed in the U.K. equipped with an afterburner.
