A new-tool model of the Tsybin NM-1 research prototype. Built in 1957, the NM-1 was intended to demonstrate the design of the planned RSR mach 3 reconnaissance aircraft. While the NM-1 actually flew and performed as designed, the RSR (later R-020) was cancelled after a few unengined prototype airframes were completed. One of our office staff commented that the NM-1 looked like something he would have designed in grade school: pointy nose, wingtip-mounted engines, wheels AND skis! Definitely something different for your shelf!
