The American F-4 Phantom II is a masterpiece jet fighter that continues to be used in various countries, from the start of its operation in 1960s to the 2000s. The F-4, which began development as a carrier-capable fighter for the U.S. Navy, has been adopted by many Western countries. In Japan, the Japan Air Self-Defense Force introduced it as a successor to the F-86F, with its first flight in 1984. The Phantom II is based on the U.S. Air Force’s F-4E, and a refurbished JASDF version is produced domestically by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. From 1982, it was developed into the F-4EJ by making adaptations such as changing electronic devices to improve combat capability and reinforcing the aircraft to extend its useful life. It has protected the skies above Japan for almost half a century. The 8th Squadron was deployed to Misawa Base in 2009, when the model was changed to the F-2. A blue-based offshore camouflage paint scheme was applied, giving the 8th Squadron’s aircraft an easily identifiable appearance.
This model kit from Platz is easy to assemble with a reduced number of parts, and reproduces the F-4EJ Kai that’s been used by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force’s 8th Squadron at Misawa Base since 1997. Decals are included for the distinctive blue camouflage color scheme, as well as two different machine numbers. Order yours now!
