The Bristol Scout is a single rotary engine single-seat biplane made as a civilian racing machine in 1914, immediately after the start of World War I. Due to its sophisticated style and high performance, the British Navy Air Corps adopted the aircraft as a high-speed reconnaissance aircrafte. The Scout D is the most-produced type of the improved Scout C, and in 1916 it departed from the flight deck of its mother ship, the Vintex, and tried to shoot down the German zeppelin L17.
