This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.

As part of Revell’s “50 Years of Revell” anniversary celebration, they’ve released some of their earliest and most popular kits on a limited production basis, including this blast from the past. Originally released in 1955, Revell’s kit of the Convair R3Y-2 “Tradewind” captures all the amazing features of the actual aircraft, including the contra-rotating props and swing-up nose for loading and off-loading cargo. The largest water-based aircraft ever built by Convair, it was often called “The Flying LST.” Great box art by Ken Smith. Display stand included. Incredibly for a 1955 tooling, most panels lines are recessed, albeit softly so. That is countered by raised outlines for decal locations, and oversized rivets…both standards of the time! Molded in a medium blue color. No clear parts.

These “retro kits” aren’t quite up to the standards of detail, accuracy, and molding of more contemporary offerings, but that’s not the point at all with this series…the point is to have fun reminiscing about how plastic modeling used to be! The original box art and side panels are great, too. Grab your favorites before they become history…again!
