Willy Ley was a German-American science writer who contributed greatly to rocketry and the popularization of spaceflight.
Born in Berlin in 1906, Ley became fascinated with spaceflight after reading books on the subject. He published his own work, The Conquest of Space, and joined the Society for Space Travel a year later, contributing regularly to its publications. In 1935, he left Germany and immigrated to the United States, becoming a naturalized citizen in 1944.
Ley continued writing extensively about spaceflight. His works were cited in reports by the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, and he served as a science advisor for science fiction television and films. He remained influential in the field until his death in 1969.
This model kit is a reissue of the 1/193 scale three-stage orbital rocket originally designed by Willy Ley for Monogram and first released in 1958.
