The last and most perfect of the N.N. Polikarpov Design Bureau’s biplane fighters was the I-153. It had a gull-shaped upper wing, retractable chassis and more powerful armaments with four ShKAS machine guns. Serial planes had M-62 radial engines, and the late series had the more powerful M-63.
This aircraft’s maiden flight was in August 1938. All in all, from 1939-41, 3,437 of these planes were manufactured. In the beginning of 1940, 93 I-153 Soviet fighters were delivered to the China Guomindang Air Force. They were in service up to 1943.
Will be approximately 19.5cm long with a wingspan of 31.2cm when completed.
