The Nieuport II is a fighter plane with a single wing and a half, designed by Gustave Delage and produced by Nieuport during World War I. It appeared on the Western Front in the summer of 1915, and is known as the aircraft that ended the “Fokker Punishment” by overpowering the German monoplane fighter, the Fokker Eindecker. This aircraft was affectionately known as “Bebe,” and was piloted by the French ace pilots Georges Guynemer and Charles Nungesser. The Nieuport II was also supplied to the French Air Corps and the Royal Navy Air Service, as well as to air forces in the Netherlands, Belgium, Russia, and Italy; in addition, 646 aircraft were licensed and produced by the Italian company Macchi.
