Following the discontinuation of the development of the A-12 (Avenger II), the U.S. Navy completely redesigned the existing F/A-18 (AD type) basic design to develop the F/A-18E/F. Design changes have been made to improve its cruising range and weapon loading capacity, upsizing of the aircraft, and stealth. Its nickname has been changed to “Super Hornet” to indicate that it transcends the “Hornet.”
