This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
The Shiden, Japanese for “Violet Lightning” and code-named “George” by the Allies, was a land-based fighter derived from the seaplane fighter Kyofu (“Gale”), Allied code-name “Rex.” With modifications, the Shiden went on to become one of Japan’s best fighter aircraft of WWII. Hasegawa has perfectly captured the characteristic look of the Shiden’s stocky fuselage, mid-fuselage wing roots, and long, complicated landing gear. Panel lines are finely engraved, and you can choose to either paint the instrument panel or apply a decal (either way would look great!). Clear parts include a crisply molded three-piece canopy, gun sight, and parts for formation lights on the wingtips and tail (some very minor surgery required to install the clear light parts). Markings are included for three aircraft from the 402nd Fighter Squadron.
