The Martin T4M was designed and developed by the Glenn L. Martin Company, and is the last biplane carrier-capable bomber of the U.S. Navy; its prototype flew for the first time in 1927. This machine is an advanced model in which the engine of its predecessor, the T3M, is changed from a liquid-cooled version to an air-cooled radial version, and the main wings are made of metal rather than wood. The T4M was delivered to the U.S. Navy starting in 1928, and was installed on the aircraft carriers Saratoga and Lexington.
