This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
A nice little limited-run kit of the Ki-78, also known as the Ken-San prototype. The real plane was an “X plane” designed to test the effects of a laminar flow wing with very high wing loading, and was powered by a license-built DB601 engine. Unfortunately the resulting aircraft was difficult to fly, with almost unacceptably high (for the time) take-off and landing speeds, and while it managed a respectable 700 km/h (about 430 mph) that was still 150 kp/h (90 mph) below the design goals. Only one was built before the project was terminated. AZ Model has previously released this kit in test aircraft markings, but this time around they went for a “what if” fighter version in Hien-style markings. Sure, there is no space for guns in this tiny little aircraft, but perhaps if one could fly through an enemy formation fast enough the dazzled American pilots would lose control and crash into the sea…
Includes two complete kits with decals.
